M.I.A

Its been so long since I've been able to sit down write. I miss it I really do. My head hasn't been on the same page as my heart. Getting back on track! My momi always told me to master the basics and everything else will fall into place. I needed to get my military life situated.

There's so much I'm looking forward to catching up on. Oh yea, I deleted my facebook so that's why TruGlam has been disabled.

Confessions of a Product-aholic!!

I am addicted to fashion magazines and beauty products....I will spend my last in a heartbeat. Sad but very true. I'm starting to think I need a 12 step meeting or something.

I'm so sleepy right now but I wanted to share these with the world.  Went to a product launch with Plhong and got THE most AH-MAY-ZYNG goodie bag eevvveeerrr!!! La Prairie!! A company that is always on the top of my wishlist!! Well now I have their newest product from the White Caviar collection. HA!  If I wasn't so sleepy I'd love to share all the details of the benefits.

LOVES the packaging!!

White Caviar face cream on the left and
Life Threads Emerald parfum on the right

I'll keep you updated as to whether or not I see changes in my skin from using the face cream.  High end products are an investment to me!

What products are you addicted to right now? Please share, I'm always looking to try new things.

TEAM Willow!

Is it just me or has this 9 year old been getting more press than MJ when he was her age?? I wasn't around then but I could only imagine!! I'm all for her. I love her lil style and the way she carries herself. A great role model for her generation! Its time to let Miley Cyrus and Raven Simone grow up and be young adults. Im way older than Willow and I love gettin in a good workout to "Whip My Hair". I've been reading a lot of the press about her needing to be in school and blah blah blah. Umm that child had parents so let them do the parenting. At least she's being productive not at club 40/40 doing lines....hhhmmmm. I added the video of her on 106 & Park so everybody could see what the media is talking about. I really hope the Smith's use that as more fuel to their flame so next time Willow does an interview she'll be saying Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I do wish her the best!!

What Would You Do For Fashion?

Playing catch up is both a relief but oh so tiring at the same time.  I can finally get these ideas on paper but as old ideas get made into posts, new ideas finally surface.  But ofcourse we all go through this at some point in time.  I'm not even half way through with my September issues and October has already hit the shelves.  I can't just NOT buy October. In a later post I'll show you my infamous magazine collection.  I'm trying to find a way to keep them all without throwing any of them away.  Any suggestions??  Living in the barracks is definitely a challenge, space is SCARCE!!!

One of my faves from Harper Bazaar's September issue is Rachel Zoe's "I Die" spread. Rachel Zoe has proven to us numerous times the sacrifices she's made for fashion...but to die?  Okay not literally, but the whole concept of the shoot is so creative. I'm surprised more people didn't blog about it.  I personally love Zoe and I refer back to her book as much as humanly possible.  I mean who wouldn't? This woman lives glamour on a day-to-day basis and I am a firm believer in learning from the best.

"Death by Stiletto? I can't imagine a better way to go." -Brian Atwood

"I would die for Rachel's vintage archive." -Francisco Costa

"Rachel's energy is electrifying? …And often shocking!" -Marc Jacobs

"The perfect accessory can make the difference between looking blah and totally to die for." -Michael Kors

"I only want to kill Rachel when I don't land one of her fabulous clients for the Oscars!" -Vera Wang

I personally thought this was a treat. The best of the best all together. I would have liked to see Karl Laggerfeld or maybe even Tom Ford...maybe next time.

So I ask you....would you die for fashion?

Shame On Me

You know it's time to update when you get tired of seeing your own old post!

I've been swamped with work, studying for my advancement exam, styling and writing.  Not to mention the fact that the love of my life boyfriend will be leaving me in less than a week, he's off to his next duty station. ::Sadness::  I am slowly but very surely getting back on track.  Even though I haven't been able to blog I have been keeping my TruGlam facebook page as up to date as humanly possible.

On a more fashionable note....

FASHION WEEK!!! OOOWWWWWW!!! I've been on on twitter like crazy clicking on all updates and twitpics.  Not as good as being there but it truly is full coverage.  So besides all the other amazing things I've come across these past few weeks, that will definitely a treat for me to blog about.  It's my first (absolutely not the last) official Spring/Summer fashion week to blog about.  ::Utter Joy::

Galliano the Great, Sniffles, Burning Houses, Bad Bitches with a side of Yeezy

Wow, we're already almost through with this year.  Scary hu? Today while I was driving with my boyfriend to the Apple Center to see about his AirPort, I noticed a billboard that had "2030" in large bold text. In twenty years I'll be 42...I probably won't be admitting my age then but it's good practice until then. Lol.

I've caught THE worst bug within the last 72 hours.  It all started with a sore throat.  The weather in the desert in no joke.  Needless to say I haven't been as active as I would like when it comes to anything.  Well only studying for my advancement exam, a few workouts here and there and sleep.

I went out and bought Viva broadband because the wi-fi in the flat is so wishy-washy and boy has it kept me busy!  I came across a few things that caught my fancy.  If you've already seen them...oh well, enjoy them again! Lol.

John Galliano PAFW Fall/Winter 2010....

Don't you just love the end...what a TRUE diva!!!!!

Eminem feat Rihanna: Love the Way You Lie

Loves Megan Fox's lips...and I'm glad ole Charlie from Lost isn't completely out of a job

Trina: My Bitches

I'm glad she came out with a new video...loves her!

Kanye West: Power

Definitely something new...what do you think??

My boyfriend thought it was a great idea to catch me at my worst.  There's no shame, even at my worst I'm still at my best!

MacBook: check   Gatorade: check    Water Jug: check  Me in this picture: SIKE!

Would you believe me if I told you this bottle is only 3 days old? Well believe it!!

My accessories. Lol

I'd love to stay and continue to update you all but I'm drifting back off to LaLa Land.  Gotta get better, work tomorrow.

I love you feedback and welcome to all my new followers.  Thank you for showing interest in my interests!

Runways on a Rainy Day

Okay so I lied, it really doesn't rain much here in the desert.  I've been here 10 months already and I can count on one hand how many times its showered.  One of the many things I miss about to East Coast.

Usually on my liberty days my boyfriend and I just chill around the house and relax.  I'm watching Fashion Network from sun-up to sun-down, surrounded by my glossies (old and new), while he's laid out on the couch usually watching old school cartoons on DVD, surrounded by his own glossies which usually consists of The New Yorker, Foreign Affairs, and Running.  These are our "rainy days".
Well not today.  We're going to spend the day at Al Bander Resort.  Fun in the ssuuunnn.  I can't wait to see some results from all my many days in the gym rockin running shorts, sweaty shirts and headbands.

For all of my fellow fashion lovers that are stuck in the house today, I wanted to leave you with some of my current favorite runway shows.  Hopefully you'll enjoy them just as much as I do.  I notice everything from who's sitting in the front row to which model has the best walk to even which model seems to be just starting out all while enjoying the show.  Multi-tasking at it's best!

This is Massimo Rebecchi MIFW Fall/Winter Collection

And this is Gaetano Navarra MIFW Fall/Winter Collection

I hadn't even heard of these designers before I came across these videos on Fashion Network.  I'm so glad I did though, they both have great things to offer us in the wonderful world of fashion!

So what do you think? Did you enjoy them as much as I?? What designers have you newly discovered lately??

Memory Monday

While at work today my mind went into complete reminiscent mode and I went back to middle school in my thoughts for a little while. It was actually kinda nice. Friday afternoons on the school bus, having the sleep over we planned all week at lunch and passed notes about in Math class, allowance. Ahh the good times. These memories also brought me back to the atrocious trends. I just knew I was too fly in my Limited Too bellbottoms and my Sketcher platform sneakers. Ooohhh yea! Ladies you remember those days, don't even try to deny it. When we all wanted to be a certain Spice Girl.

Well now the bells are gone and its all about the skinny leg and the platform has become a wedge.

What are some of your favorite memories in fashion? Don't hold back on the embarrassing moments...lets get a good laugh together!

Keeping up with the Times

I can't really say I've been "busy" but there have been a few other things that have taken my attention away from blogging. Studying for my upcoming advancement exam, staying consistent in the gym and of course my contributing fashion editor duties to GAZ and Shout magazine. I will do better I promise. Here's a quick recap of the things I would have blogged about if time permitted:

*Yay for Lebron!! It's nice to know who your fans/friends really are once you make a decision that is better for you and not what other people want. I don't care where he goes, just keep doing what you do best! I mean that is why we love him in the first place right??

*Congrats to LaLa and Melo. I really like Lala, always smiling, always with her son and she always walks with her head held high. Im so happy she's gotten her happy ending!

*Zoe Salanda is the new face of Calvin Klein underwear. YYYEEESSSSSS!!! LOVES that woman, she just ozzes grace, glamour and femininity. Actually, I know I'll be blogging about this one, her campaign is FAB and I love her too much not to.

*Bahrain Fashion Week. Well it means more to me than anything. You won't find coverage on it on any of the fashion websites but you will find it here on GL'AMore. I will be working it and it's another experience that's going to better me in my career. It's not until November but I will be updating on it...this is year 3 for the Kingdom and it's already gone international.

I know this wasn't much but I just wanted to say SOMETHING today before my workout. Swimming today...we shall see how that goes.

What are your thoughts...comments...agreements...disagreements?? I'd love to hear your feedback!!

Until next time

What was the worst movie you've ever seen?

I can't even say, there's been a lot of those lately

Ask me anything

Stylish Minds Think Alike

I must say today has been a pretty good day. Its the first day in weeks I've worked out besides doing PT. I haven't had much time to blog because I've been so focused on my article for GAZ. But with all the buzz about this year's men's collections on the runway, I will definitely have something in the works coming soon. I have a lot of people asking why Im not doing mens. Oh I am, just waiting for the right time.

The other day my boyfriend brought something to my attention. Complex's current cover with MIA on it as beautiful as EVER!!! I loved seeing her Marc Jacobs ads. Well, he was pretty excited, even though he tried to act all cool about it, but her stylist (Anoma Ya Whittaker) did something VERY similar to what I did on my most recent shoot with GAZ! And OH MY GOODNESS when I saw it, it just was once again another reminder to me that I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be. Please don't get it messed up...GAZ magazine came out more than two weeks ago and Complex JUST hit the newsstands. So I in now way "jacked" her stylist...stylish minds think alike!

So this is one of my shots for GAZ magazine:

And these are the shots from Complex:

Hope you enjoyed!! Im going to wash off my workout and pesto stains from cooking dinner and read my new In-Style while watching ATL and saying all the lines verbatim! What a perfect evening. Until next time...

Another Addiction

I've literally been lying here in the bed for over an hour on Chictopia. And I thought IFB was addictive, this site is awesome. These free spirit fashionistas have given me inspiration here and there. I love it. I guess what Im saying it the time I was supposed to spend blogging today was spend leaving comments on all the many chictopian photos. Check it out and when you get there follow me GlamGuzzie.

Hot Arabian Night

Last night was ofcourse another hot one. It's so backwards here in the Bahraini desert, it's hotter at night than in the day. I can't say I remember it being like that in Dubai. Either way, my boyfriend and I went on a date....smoked a lil shisha and watched the world cup...Denmark won. Oh well, keep it up Africa...we got it next time!!!! WAKA WAKA!!!!!!!

Moments in Style

Yesterday a young lady I met through IFB reminded me of something very important for my blog. My own personal style. You know who you are...awe what the heck...Kayla Domingo. Check out her blog ya'll...she's fresh, honest and takes great pictures of herself!!

A personal sense of style is so important to me. Some take longer than others to get it going, others get it from really young and it just keeps getting better. Where do I fall...hhmmmm, I must say I've had it from early on, my mom is FLLYYY!! I was wearing plaid blazers in kindergarden. The most important part of personal style for me is being comfortable. That is the key. What is comfortable for some is not always for others.

With that being said, Im dedicating this blog to some of my favorite snapshots of my moments in style. Who knows it might even turn into a weekly feature...hhhmmmm.

My ride or die American Eagle camouflage cargo shorts. I think every girl should have a pair. These I like to dress up or down...cargo shorts and heels...Beyonce always does it best. Unfortunately I've lost a lot of weight and have to get a new pair but until then, I'll always remember the good times. Ahhhh.

*smile* I love these electric blue suede Aldo heels. I almost lost my mind when I saw them in Elle magazine two months after I had already bought them. Did I mention I've yet to even wear them. I couldn't even tell you what Im waiting for.

Yes, the poster says 8 Mile. Not the one Emimen reps...the real 8 Mile in Alabama. Hi my name is Nadia and I am a country girl. I've been raised alotta-bit-of-everywhere.

My favorite H&M jeans with a slight white wash in the thigh with brown embellishments on the pockets. I believe the shirt is H&M also, I jacked it from my sister. Last but not least the shoes are Nine West tan Gladiators with gold studs.

At the Bahraini museum. There goes those gladiators again. The white shirt is from Forever 21, the tan belt is Urban Outfitters, my jeans are Michael Kors, sunglasses are from American Eagle and my bag is Miu Miu.

This post is a bit sentimental for me. Yes these are my moments in style but this is also a mini reminder for me of my current journey in the military. The first photo marks me being in Master-at-Arms "A" school, the second photo was the first pair of heels I bought since I graduated from boot camp, the third photo was the first time I'd seen my family since my military journey began and right before I left to go overseas and this last photo marks me here in Bahrain. Yes, pictures do have a story to tell and Im so glad Im able to share this with you all. I am so proud to say I've made it this far.

We will never know where we are going if we don't use where we've been as a map.

Hermes, every scarf has a story

We all know and love the brand. A classic, a true representation of luxury, glamour and quality. Hermes has been producing the best of the best for over 200 years and is still going strong!! Giving the very long and detailed history of Hermes isn't necessary right now, that can be saved for a whole other post. There are 5 fun facts I feel every fashionista should know about the luxurious silk scarves. So next time your at the counter getting ready to swipe, engage the sales associate with you new found knowledge, you might even know more than they do! Also, you'll appreciate the purchase so much more!!

1. The average Hermes scarf measures 90cmx90cm
2. It takes the silk from 250 mulberry moth cocoons to make one scarf
3. Every year two scarf collections are released
4. Hermes even rereleases their vintage motifs
5. The scarves can be worn as shirts, skirts and even a beach cover up, some people are known to even frame them or make then into pillows

Okay, so I have a confession...48 hours ago I knew none of this. It took one random visit to the Hermes store and 15 mins with the wonderful Mya and now Im all polished up on my facts. Mya was even nice enough to show my friend Phlong and I examples of all the different scarf collections, vintage and contemporary.

Below are the pictures of my lesson: Hermes Scarves 101.

This is a classic equestrian motif, the same 90cm x 90cm
except this one is pleated

Mya showing Phlong and I how to wear it tied around the neck

And now as a belt

This is one of the rereleased vintage motifs Astrologie

This one is my favorite, is called Brides de Gala

And this is Mya wearing Brides de Gala as a belt

What do you think? Did you learn something new? What's your favorite Hermes motif??

INSTANT PUDDING: Fabulously Futuristic

Rachel Freire has given me hope for the future of fashion. She has the creativity of someone who is ready to go above and beyond the norm. Could you believe she's never even studied fashion design??? She debuted her AW10 collection called "Future Noir" during London Fashion Week in February 2010. The whole collection completely mesmerized me, I just want more and more. It features "complex corsetry, militaristic boleros and intricate lacing." There's a certain mysterious sexuality about her designs This collection puts me in the mindset of warrior princesses of the future. Here as some of my favorite pieces of her collection.... actually, this is her whole collection, they're all my faves!

What do you think and who are your favorite up and coming designers??
